About this index
NHL Roud is an independent editorial index of hotels. It covers sixteen properties, divided into four categories — art hotels, capsule hotels, casino hotels and ice hotels — and its only ambition is to describe them clearly.
How entries are written
Each hotel gets a few paragraphs of prose. We describe where the building is, what it was built around, and what is distinctive about staying there. We avoid specification tables because they flatten exactly the details that make a property worth listing, and we avoid superlatives because they are usually unverifiable.
The facts we include are general and durable: location, architecture, ownership, the shape of the operation. Prices change, room counts change, and seasonal properties change more than most, so we leave those to the hotels themselves.
What this site is not
- It is not a booking service. There is no reservation system here and no availability data.
- It does not publish ratings, scores or guest reviews, and it does not aggregate them from elsewhere.
- It has no commercial relationship with the hotels described, and entries are not paid placements.
Geography
The index is deliberately international. Categories like capsule and ice hotels concentrate in particular parts of the world for obvious reasons, but nothing here is written from a single country's point of view.
